Any candidate, from any political party or independent, standing for the Dáil in the next General Election may make the R48 Candidate Pledge.
The R48 Candidate Pledge requires a candidate to make an irrevocable pledge to propose and vote for the reintroduction of Article 48 into the Irish constitution by voting for a constitutional amendment bill to this effect within six months after taking office following the next General Election.
All candidates making the R48 Candidate Pledge are advised to display the R48 logo on their election material and on their website to inform voters that they have taken the R48 Candidate pledge. Also this assists R48 Team to confirm the validity of a Candidate's R48 Pledge by checking to see if the R48 logo is displayed on their website. This process helps to prevent fraudulent/prank R48 Candidate Pledges. Once a Candidate's R48 Pledge has been confirmed then their name will be added to the list of Candidates who have made the Reinstate 48 Pledge.
The R48 website will publish the names of all candidates who have taken the R48 Candidate Pledge on this page. Also, just before polling day, an email will be sent to all R48 Pledge voters in each constituency listing the candidates for their constituency who have made the R48 Candidate Pledge. This will inform the voters as to which candidates in their constituency believe that they, the ordinary people of Ireland, have a legitimate interest and say in the future decisions of government that effect their lives.
